14th KUMBIRA 2010 – A Culinary Show & Live Competitions

KUMBIRA 2010, Culinary Show and Live Competitions will once again take center stage as it showcases various Food and Beverage Competitions, Cooking Seminars & demonstrations by experts in the food industry, trade exhibits on Hotel and Restaurant equipments and supplies among others.

A Flagship project of the Cagayan de Oro Hotel and Restaurant Association (COHARA) , KUMBIRA is a major event in time for the annual Cagayan de Oro City Fiesta in honor of its Patron, St. Augustine. With the passing of the City Government Resolution No. 7314-2005 declaring the third week of August and every year thereafter as “KUMBIRA Week”, COHARA has continued to mount this event. Now, on its 14th year, KUMBIRA has attracted culinary professionals, students, housewives and other enthusiasts from all over Mindanao, and even major cities of the Visayas and Luzon.

Themed “Local Flavors for Global Competitiveness”, KUMBIRA is scheduled on August 18 to 20, 2010, at the Atrium of Limketkai Mall this City and will present eleven (II) competitions for the Professional category and twelve (12) for the Student Category including “Chef Wars”, a Regional competition of which the winners (all expenses paid) will represent Mindanao to the Chef Wars National Competition in Manila on September 10-11, 2010 during the “National Food Showdown”, which is a production of TV Food Chefs, a subsidiary of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation.

Aimed to update and elevate culinary services, as well as promote friendly competitions among COHARA member-establishments and other industry practitioners, the event will definitely demonstrate the skills, artistry and creativity of the food and beverage business players and the students as well.

Last year, a total of 195 entries from thirty-three (33) schools and 82 entries participated by fourteen (14) establishments competed in twenty-two (22) events. For the professional category, Over-all winners were BIGBY’S CAFÉ (1st), PRYCE PLAZA (2nd ) and CAFÉ LAGUNA (3rd) while TAGOLOAN COMMUNITY COLLEGE (1st ), ST. MICHAEL’S COLLEGE-ILIGAN (2nd ) and CHRIST THE KING COLLEGE-Gingoog (3rd), were the awardees for the student category .

Judges for the competitions this year will be composed of culinary luminaries of prominent Chefs and industry professionals from Manila, Cebu, Davao and other parts of the country. Generous and loyal sponsors, including the Department of Tourism will be giving cash prizes, trophies and certificates to participants and winners of the competitions.
